No kidding–don’t miss the start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in downtown Anchorage on Sat., Mar. 1. Dig this picture taken at the start by our friend, Clark James Mishler. It’s all part of the Fur Rondy celebration in Anchorage Feb. 22-Mar. 2. Other events include the Tour of Anchorage ski race, which starts on Sun. Mar. 2 and the new WILDFest at Town Square. More details soon!
United Airlines now will charge travelers $25 if they want to check two bags, according to an Associated Press story published this morning. The first checked bag still will be accepted at no additional charge. Whoopee.
United resumes its seasonal service to Alaska on Feb. 13 with a daily nonstop flight from Anchorage to Denver.
If you’re traveling to Denver, consider flying Frontier Airlines, which also offers nonstop service beginning in May. Alaska Airlines offers year-round service to the Mile High City. With Alaska Airlines and Frontier Airlines, you’re free to check two bags at no additional cost. If you’re flying this summer from Chicago or San Francisco (United’s two other hubs), remember that Alaska Airlines also flies from those destinations. I dunno–I just get all warm and fuzzy about United Airlines when I learn about new shakedown initiatives like this. I’m not alone, either. Check out Untied.com . It’s a site devoted to problems dealing with United.
