Scott,
Since you are my travel guru and I read your Anchorage Daily News column religiously, I took your advice and flew Condor to Frankfurt for the first leg of an Italian vacation. Oops. What a nightmare! (to put it mildly) The Condor flight departing on May 24 actually departed on May 26th. The passengers were called back to the airport 3 times, asked to check in and wait, then told 3 times that the plane “was broke.” Condor had no customer service in Alaska, no mechanics in Alaska, no pane parts in Alaska and not even a phone number to call. We had to call Germany…for a fee. Passengers missed cruises, connections, weddings, etc.
Once we got to Frankfurt, my son, who was heading to West Point later in the month and was on a schedule) and I had to buy expensive on the spot, day of tickets to get to Italy. We have contacted Condor for expenses incurred: canceled but charged hotel reservations, missed flights and inconvenience fees that the European Community regulations say we are entitled to. We have only received acknowledgment that they did in fact receive our e mail.
I noticed that you plugged Condor in your July 20 article. Beware! I bet not one person on the may 24-26 Condor flight will ever fly Condor again. I know I won’t. It cost us waaaaay more than any other flight, plus two days of our life and it took the joy out of our Italian vacation.
Respectfully reading your column,
Sami Graham
