I wanted to try out the Mini Motel–it comes in a compact package and it’s designed for those “forced overnights” at the airport. You know–after the last flight’s been canceled. You have the option of scrambling to find a hotel for four or five hours-or spread out on the floor. Check out the video. Let me know what you think. Post a comment. Heck–you could win a free “Mini Motel” of your very own.
Oh–the girl? That’s Darnell Sue, Seattle’s “Girl About Town”. I’m still fiddling with the software for this video stuff and I needed to pick a “thumbnail” for this video. Well, Darnell’s having a lot more fun in the “Polar Bar” of the Arctic Club Hotel in Seattle sipping absinthe than I am trying to assemble some sort of mini-tent. If you’re going to Seattle, check out her blog for all the kewl events.

mini motel. is it true christy kicked you out with your mini motel? hope not. was it really that confortable Scott?
Gary
Scott, I know how tall you are–did you really fit into it? I wanted to see how far your legs stuck out. And how much does it cost?
HAHA! Hey Carol–I really did fit inside….my legs didn’t stick out. They’re $50. But it was a little tight. On balance I think it’s a better option than laying out on the floor. Interesting concept, for sure.
Don’t think I’d use the tent part, but there have been many a night in Anchorage and Sea-Tac I would have given a lot of $ for the rest of the package!
My volunteer work makes me well aware of homelessness in Anchorage. With a sleeping bag this might have possibilities during the warmer months.
Maybe even useful in the sea of humanity at Bro Francis……………
Would I use it? Quite possibly if I got stuck for a long time. I do like the idea of a little privacy and something between me and the floor. Is there a pump to go with the air matress?
Hi Phyllis–Yep, there is a built-in foot-pump so you don’t have to blow it up. Slick.
Wow, this is the greatest thing since sliced bread….and slip on shoes to get through security quicker. I’ll be ordering one. Wish they would ship to AK free like the lower 48.
How thick is the air mattress itself–does it actually make the concrete floors bearable?
Hi Jan–the air mattress is plenty lofty. I especially like the foot-pump.
This looks like an absolutely great product for those that do a lot of traveling. With the holidays coming up and air traffic picking up this is a smart investment for those that want to be prepared.
You’ve come up with the best new idea I’ve seen! Can’t wait to order for holiday gift giving to family and friends. Wish I’d thought of it.
This looks pretty cool- and although I don’t do more than a trip or two a year, this looks like it could be a great thing to put in an emergency 72-hour kit (where you have all the things that you would need for 72 hours in one place). It looks like it folds up very compactly. Thanks for sharing!
At almost 5lbs in weight and having to “plan ahead” to keep it in one’s carry-on it could get a bit cumbersome to drag around “just in case”. Can you really get it all neatly repacked and into the original package again? Company website says to just leave it behind after use, but at $50 I would not want to do that, besides which I bet airports would not appreciate it either. Did sheet wrap mattress or how does it stay in place? Wonder who chose the blaze orange color…good for deer hunting season(!).
Great idea, and you never know when you’ll need to pull it out. . . it’s always a 50-50 of having a whole trip go on schedule, and especially for the midnight til 5 a.m. waits in the airport, which are not uncommon.
Wow, I could have used this just a couple of nights ago when I spent 6 hours on the Mezzanine level of the Anchorage airport. I think I dozed once or twice but, especially if you’re female and traveling solo, it is hard to relax in a semi-deserted airport. Being hidden inside the Mini-Motel would have definitely helped me relax enough to get some much needed rest. The only possible problem I can see is getting your carryon items inside the Mini-Motel with you so that they are secure. Overall, I think it is an absolutely great option for frequent travelers in Alaska where weather can interrupt your journey at a moment’s notice……and remember, airlines do not pay for hotels/food for ‘weather’ related delays so this Mni-Motel would be a very economical backup plan.
