Fly to Australia from L.A. or San Francisco for $760rt plus taxes. That makes the total around $900 each. Still–great deal that lasts through Sept. 21.

Our friends at USTravel can arrange all the details: air fare, tours, hotel, car rental–the works. The sale, on Qantas, features Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Other cities are available (including Auckland, Perth, Cairns and Darwin) at additional cost. Here’s a shot of the Airbus 380 on the tarmac at LAX:

Do you have any Australia-only tours that coincide with the Qantas airfare special? We would be interested in going in late February/early March 2009 for 3-4 weeks. We would want to visit Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, and Cairns. We are NOT interested in seeing Ayers Rock. We like guided tours that give a person adequate time in each location–not hit-and-run stops that are exhausting and inadequate for seeing what a person wants to see. Please provide tour details and prices. Thank you!

Is there a sale on first class or something better than a little narrow seat like in AK Air? We just got to Kona from Ketchikan yesterday and I about died in the middle seat between 2 men. My husband has been wanting to go to Australia since we’ve been married almost 40 yrs.

Please provide us with fairs from Alaska, i.e., Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. Prices from CA are for people in the lower 48. Also, just give us the total cost, not the basic ticket plus tax. We are interested in the bottom line, thanks.

I just found another item. Above you ask for “Website” when you actually want our email address. I left it blank and received an error.

Received another error. This time I’m trying my email in the “Mail” block.

Hi Al–Thanks for your note. I was in a hurry to get out the prices for Australia, since they are very good for winter travel, etc. The bottom line ex-L.A. or ex-SFO is about $900. Add on the fare from Alaska to L. A. or SFO. I tried via HNL but it was MUCH more, even tho’ there’s less flying involved. The reason I didn’t price it out is because, frankly, the fares to California from ANC are almost $600. I just cannot get excited about them. At those rates, it’s worth considering cashing in some miles to get to CA, then pick up the QF flight to Australia…where you’ll earn extra Alaska Air miles. Hope that helps. s
