Start at the Kenai Princess, which sits on a bluff overlooking the headwaters of the Kenai River in Cooper Landing. Stay during the last week of May for as little as $99 per night. Other dates throughout the summer are available from $149 per night. Don’t stay here without floating the scenic Kenai River. Whether you love to fish or just enjoy watching the wildlife, a trip on the Kenai River is a great adventure!

I even love the n-a-m-e of these food-and-wine events at Land’s End Resort in Homer. “Uncorked”. HA! POP! I can hear the cork right now! And yes, this is the view out on the “beach” in front of the dining room!

Of course, the wine is a big part of each event at Land’s End. (more…)
Ride the rails all the way to Denali National Park. Gray Line of Alaska has great packages featuring full-dome, private rail cars from Anchora
ge or Fairbanks to the park, plus overnight accommodations and transfers to your hotel. REALLY–these are good deals. Here’s the McKinley Explorer private rail car going over Hurricane Gulch on the Alaska Railroad.
From Anchorage: Ride the train roundtrip up and back to Denali and stay for one night. The price? Just $289 roundtrip, per person, double. Add one or two extra nights for just $99 per room, per night. That’s plenty of time to take the bus tour into the park and see the wildlife! Take a raft trip. Go for a flightseeing tour!
From Fairbanks, the same package is available for just $199 rt per person, double. In fact, if you want to stay in Fairbanks before or after your tour, the rate is just $59 per night at the Westmark Hotel. Wow!
Check the website for complete details and make your plans today to ride the rails to Denali National Park!
Be the first on board a new class of cruise ship: luxurious. Here’s a shot of the all-new Queen Mary 2 sailing under the Golden Gate:

Two new ships will be sailing soon. Silversea’s “Silver Spirit” will set sail in December–just before Christmas, sailing from Barcelona to Lisbon. (more…)
Wow. I took the crew from Alaska HDTV on Era Aviation over to Kodiak and we had a great time. We saw bears on a flight with Kodiak’s Island Air. We went kayaking with Orcas Unlimited. And yes, we sipped some beer at the Kodiak Island Brewery. As usual, “Mate Marion” Owen of Galley Gourmet fame was our mistress of ceremonies for the adventure. Can’t wait to return again soon to Alaska’s Emerald Isle!
