Time to get on board the Alaska Railroad and ride to Denali this summer from Anchorage or Fairbanks. Spend two nights-
-that gives you time to take the LONG tour (Tundra Wildlife Tour) into the park, plus a raft trip on the Nenana River.
Gray Line of Alaska features private rail cars (the McKinley Explorer). Full-dome viewing on top, with a nice restaurant on the lower level. GREAT way to ride on the Alaska Railroad. Your accommodations are near to the park entrance and all the activities: river rafting, flightseeing, guided hikes and more.
From Fairbanks, the cost is just $299 per person for three days/two nights. From Anchorage, it’s a little longer–so the cost is $399 per person–and that includes your rail and two nights’ accommodations.
Space is limited. Call (888)452-1737 today or check online for more details.
Really–we had a great time riding the tram. Gosh–the observation deck near Seven Glaciers Restaurant is 2,300 feet. And there’s a glorious, bird’s-eye view of Turnagain Arm!

We love Girdwood, home to Alyeska Resort. You will, too. After taking your 2,300-foot ride up the mountain, grab a bite to eat at the Glacier Express.

Spend the night at the impressive Alyeska Resort! Here are some cool packages for the summer:
a. Lunch On the Mountain. Just $129 per person (double)! Includes deluxe overnight accommodations for two, plus a pair of Tram-and-Lunch combo tickets for Glacier Express. (more…)
Ya, it’s co
unter-intuitive to be outside of Alaska. But face it–the weather in Anchorage is TERRIBLE. That said, it’s 90 degrees here in Seattle. We’ve been out on the water, on the bikes–anything to keep cool. There’s lots going on, too.
Seafair is about to start. The Blue Angels are in town. I’m headed to a Mariners‘ game tomorrow. There’s just lots going on!
When you come to Seattle, pick up a copy of the Seattle TourSaver. It’s the handy 2-for-1 guide that will save you a bundle!

It’s true: a sustained yoga practice makes you a better traveler. Aside from the physical benefits, the mental practice enables me to suffer the many indignities of travel that simply are a part of the experience these days.
I love to travel–that’s clear. But getting there can be a pain in the neck. Honestly–many travelers have a lower view. HAHA. When I’m on the road, I seek out a yoga studio nearby. For the last few mornings here in Redmond, Washington, I’ve been joining them for a 6:15am practice.
It all helps me appreciate my “home” studio, Laughing Lotus of Anchorage. Svia and Kim offer classes in several different disciplines–you should drop in and try a couple of different classes to see what works best for you.
They’re located in Anchorage off of the Old Seward Highway, near 57th St. (620 E. 57th Place). Call them at (907)243-9642.
In addition to their regular classes, Kim and Svia bring in a great variety of guest teachers, as well as hosting and sponsoring a variety of events. (more…)
