My friend Steve Hites lives in Skagway, where he first joined the White Pass Railway 36 years ago. Today, he runs the Skagway Streetcar Company–which gives tours of the city in vintage 1927 airporters. They do a great job! Here, he shares a little bit about workin’ on the railroad!

Take advantage of Alaska Airlines‘ mileage perks. It’s your duty as a frequent flyer to make the most of your mileage plan! When you fly enough, you can earn “MVP” and “MVP Gold” status, which includes free first class upgrades. Pictured here: Sheri–serving up a First Class fruit plate between Anchorage and Chicago.
Here are some tips:
b. Get the credit card. Here at the McMurren house, we have two of the credit cards, from Bank of America. The big bonus is the $99 companion pass. That alone is worth the $75 annual fee. But you also get one mile for every dollar you spend. PLUS, you get a mileage bonus of 20,000 miles when you’re approved for your credit card–and a 5,000-mile bump when you charge your first $750.
c. Coordinate your purchases and your travel choices. Remember, in addition to Alaska Airlines, you can earn miles by shopping at Carrs/Safeway, by calling on GCI, or by flying on partner airlines including Delta, Era Alaska and American Airlines.
WHOA! Take advantage of Alaska’s “Kids Fly Free” promo for travel between now and Apr. 30. To qualify, buy a vacation package from Alaska Vacations. Be sure and include your Disney tickets, you can get two additional nights when you book three nights.
The package is great for families with kids, age 2-11. One of the kids flies free for each adult ticket. No travel is permitted on the following dates: Feb. 18-19, 22, Mar. 19, 21, 26, 28, Apr. 2-5, 2010. The best rates are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Kids Fly Free is available to Orange County, Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego airports. Space is limited so book today for best availability.  Call: (800)468-2248.
