Magellans: my favorite store for travel gear

If you’re going on a trip, check out the Magellan’s website for all your gear. Rolling luggage. Quick-dry undies. Those nerdie-looking safety travel wallets that slip under your shirt. Yep–we’ve got ‘em. They work, too. Earlier this month we had a little photo shoot at the Era Alaska hangar to show off a couple of the new travel backpacks.  Our sound engineer (for our PODCASTS) Kirby Kauffman models the new “Slingsafe 300 GII backpack (above).

I love the pitch: “Visibly stylish, deceptively secure”. Kirby and I are working on using that phrase in a sentence. HAHA. It’s a clever pack, tho’. There’s a slash-proof strap, lockable zippers and built-in RFID shielding that guards against identity theft. Very smart, indeed.

Staff photographer David McMurren opts for the “Urban Hybrid Convertapack”. This bag switches quickly from a backpack to an over-the-shoulder messenger bag. It’s got a padded iPad sleeve, locking zippers and clips and a stainless steel cable that runs through the shoulder strap for extra security.

David slips his RFID-shielded travel wallet inside the bag to guard against identity theft.

I’m a big fan of Magellan’s. Heck, I even made a video during my visit to their store in Santa Barbara SEE BELOW).

Fun stuff; Big loud bag tags, umbrellas, travel pillows…the works. Check ‘em out.
