Visit Anchorage: Northern Lights Ablaze!!

Are you coming to visit us here in Anchorage? I hope so, since we’ve dusted the ground with some snow and turned on the northern lights JUST FOR YOU!!!

And here are a few of the “Must See” spots in the area:

1. Northern Lights. Lately, we’ve been treated to a DAZZLING display of the aurora borealis. Take one clear, cold evening. Add a Thermos of coffee to keep your eyes open–and GET READY! Kudos to David Taylor of Sixtyone North Photography who snapped this photo (above). His prints are available for sale on his website!

2. Join us for the 35th Annual Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout! I know–you thought Thanksgiving was about turkey. Nope–each Thanksgiving in Anchorage–we give thanks for great BASKETBALL! The following teams will appear in the men’s bracket this year: Belmont, UC Riverside, Northeastern, Loyola Marymount, Oral Roberts, Texas State, Charlotte, and UAA. On the women’s side teams from Prairie View A&M, Utah State and North Dakota State will join our very own Lady Seawolves! DATES: Nov. 20-24, 2012!!

3. Alyeska Resort. Alyeska IS OPEN!! This may come as a surprise, but there’s SNOW ON THE GROUND. That means ski season is closer than ever! Plan your winter escape to Alyeska Resort NOW! It’s just 35 miles from downtown Anchorage along the STUNNING Turnagain Arm (N-E-V-A-H get tired of that drive!!!).

4. Anchorage Museum. We cannot overstate the “cool” quality of the Anchorage Museum. It’s right downtown at 6th Ave. and C St. Plus, there’s a great restaurant, “Muse” that’s on-site! Check out the new “Body Worlds Vital” exhibit!

Alaska is so beautiful and grand – much of it is like the world was before people filled it up.

ALASKA is Colorado on steroids. The vastness of Alaska is what Texans dream their state would be…Once you visit Alaska your heart is forever in Alaska…
