CAUTION: Low-flying geese disrupt Anchorage airport

It’s true. All through the “B” concourse, there are geese. Big, fat geese. Just look up–you can’t miss ’em. I had the chance to visit with the artist, Rachelle Dowdy (photo, above, by Rob Stapleton/AlaskaFoto.com). “Whimsical” really doesn’t cut it. Rachelle has LOTS of fun making her big sculptures to the delight of travelers at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

“It’s all about migration. The wild birds are a perfect metaphor for our comings-and-goings in Alaska,” she said.

Of course, Rachelle’s 15 wild geese represents just a small portion of the beautiful art on display at the airport. Check it out next time you’re passing through. And watch your head!
