Put Seattle’s Museum of Flight on your “must see” list when you’re visiting the Emerald City. Here are some new packages from our friends at Northern Alaska Tour Company. I love the Arctic Circle fly-drive…which is where I captured this image (above). But scroll down for new adventures to Minto and Denali! :
- AURORA FLY-DRIVE. Leave at 1pm from the Fairbanks Airport for a flight north of the Arctic Circle to Coldfoot. Oh. I <3 Coldfoot. There’s no place like it. Grab a bag lunch from the nearly-famous Coldfoot Cafe and start your tour south along the Haul Road. There are several stops along the way to check out the tundra, the pipeline and the Arctic Circle! By this time, the sun is going down. Cross over the Yukon River and head to the aurora-viewing spot at Joy, Alaska. You’ll get back to Fairbanks LATE–but that’s when the lights are out! From $419 per person
- Fly to MINTO from Fairbanks. It’s a 40-minute flight over the Yukon-Tanana uplands.
On arrival, meet your guide, who can help you with a number of optional activities. A tour of the small village (150 residents) is included. Share a meal with the village elders. Then, drive back to Fairbanks. Cost is $129 per person. This is about a 10-hour tour.
DENALI WINTER DRIVE from Fairbanks. Drive SOUTH from Fairbanks along the Parks Highway. Visit Nenana, which is a regional transportation hub: river, rail, highway and air access. Then, continue south to Healy, which serves as the year-round gateway to Denali National Park. Then, visit the Murie Science and Learning Center at Denali and learn about the park during the winter. This is a nine-hour tour. Cost is $149 per person.
