OK. Technically, it’s the Alaska Marine Highway. I call it “the ferry” though. Other friends of mine who live along the ferry route call it “The Blue Canoe”. Actually it’s called “Alaska’s Marine Highway”. And it really is a road between many of our far-flung communities.

Remember, Glacier Bay is just 60 miles from Juneau. The folks who run Glacier Bay Lodge inside the park also offer a whale watching dinner cruise and a ferry between Juneau and Glacier Bay.

When you stay two nights at the lodge, you get a 2-for-1 ticket for either the ferry ride or the whale watch/dinner cruise.

The ferry runs from Juneau on Fridays and Sundays (perfect for a weekend getaway). The whale watch runs on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. (more…)
