Now’s your chance to pre-order the HTC Desire or Motorola Milestone Android handsets from GCI. These are next-gen  Android:  Android 2.1 os, 3.7″ touch-screens, and linked to Google Marketplace’s apps store. These phones are free from GCI, with a new 2-year contract, plus qualifying data plan.

I finally figured out my cell phone plan with GCI. Here’s how it works best for us: I sign up for theunlimited/unlimited plan. It costs about $100 per month. Right now when you sign a two-year agreement, you get your choice of several Blackberry phones–free!

Here’s the good part, though: I signed up the wife and two kids as “partners” on the plan for $50/month. That’s where this stuff finally starts to make sense.

No roaming fees–and there’s unlimited local and long distance calling. And yes, that includes text messages. My fat fingers can’t push the right buttons, but the kids have it dialed in…that’s for sure.

Now, when the kids want to go to town with Grandpa, we have a way to keep in touch with them without relying on Gramps’ cell phone, since he left it at home…again. HA!

So, here’s the lineup: I have the Android phone–and use it to update Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare on the run. Christy has the Crackberry. She’s more comfortable with the actual keys and a keyboard–as opposed to my touchscreen. One child has a Nokia with the touchscreen. The other chose a Samsung with a slid-out QWERTY keyboard.

Go to GCI’s website. There are MANY phones that are available free with a two-year agreement. And I’m happy with the unlimited plans–because I…Just…Can’t…Keep…Track…of…my…Minutes…ACK.

Traveling around Alaska, many of the free internet hot spots are spotty, indeed. Slow speeds, non-secure hook-ups, broken connections, the works.

EVDOSo, I’m a big fan of GCI‘s wireless card, which plugs into the side of my laptop. Dubbed “Xtreme Mobility”, the plan is available to existing GCI cable modem customers for $20 per month.

The card allows you to tap into super-fast EVDO signal from Whittier up to WIllow, over in Soldotna and up in Fairbanks. Oh, Seward, too. (more…)

Unlimited: it’s right up there with “free” in my Favorite Word department. So GCI is hitting the Sweet Spot with its Alaska Unlimited Plus Planlg-kp500-affordablepreview1.  and the new FREE LG KP500 phone. The plan is $55 per month and includes unlimited calls to the Lower 49 states, plus unlimited text messages. This is perfect if you’re cruising around Alaska and need a network that ROCKS. (more…)

Honestly, I don’t know what I did before I had these cool devices from GCI.

a. My EVDO wireless card from GCI. This is the handy USB device that plugs into the side of my MacBook to hook up in those fancy hotels that want $20/day for wireless. Evildoers!!!! It’s not just that, though. Even when I’m in my favorite coffeeshop, the Geek Squad next to me may be hogging bandwidth with their WoW machinations. I just plug in the card and BEHOLD–I can get a fast blackberryconnection, unencumbered by my neighbor’s gamefest. The cost is $20 per month if you have GCI cable modem access at home (I do).  Worth it!

b. I’m hooked on my Blackberry. Many telecon uber-execs knew it would happen, too. Ah, the little trackball. Ah, my emails. Ah, my twittering thumbs. Jeez. Just let me set it down for a minute so I can put cream in my coffee. ACK–almost dropped it in the cup (j-e-s-t kidding).

These are just a couple of items in my GCI Wireless toolbox. Oh, I’ve got the wife and kids on the buddy plan for unlimited nationwide service, unlimited texting and unlimited local calls. It’s $100/mo.  for her and $50/mo. for the kids. Come to think of it, right next to “Free” and “2-for-1″, “unlimited” ranks as one of my favorite words–especially when it comes to the telephonic Chat-Fest at Chez McMurren.

Don’t miss out. Check with GCI today. Chat and text your way into next week. Heck–it’s unlimited!
